Our biggest congratulations to our fishing and fishery conservation guide Sivan Jansson in Älvkarleby for her nomination as “Fire Soul of the Year” in the Health category. In 2011, Sivan suffered a stroke and during her rehabilitation, she realized how important her great passion, fishing, was for her recovery. Today, Sivan advocates fishing as a treatment method for stroke patients and for people with fatigue symptoms.

“I am proud and pleased about the nomination,” says Sivan. “It really feels like my concept of ‘Fishing yourself healthier’ has taken off. Encouraging the use of the health-promoting effects of nature is something I want to help with.”

Back in 2003, Sivan formed Fjällorna, a now-nationwide fishing association for women that arranges fishing trips, meetings, courses and seminars.

“Fjällorna is for all women,” says Sivan. “It doesn’t matter if you’re are a beginner or what type of fishing you are interested in. Since the mid-nineties, I’ve been holding fly-fishing courses for both men and women. It feels amazing to have been able to inspire others to take up a fantastic outdoor activity. And the icing on the cake is that I’ve made a lot of new friends.”

“If you haven’t tried fishing yet, do it! It’s a climate-smart way to catch your own fish and lower the stress level in your body at the same time by being out in nature. It’s a fabulous way to recharge your batteries.”
