Welcome to Färnebofjärden National Park, a unique river landscape in a strikingly beautiful part of Nedre Dalälven. The wide Färnebo fjard, or bay, is a unique composition of extraordinary environments. Beach marshes, river meadows, floodplains and old-growth forests give visitors unforgettable nature experiences. The periodic floods leave strong marks on the National Park and more than 200 islands and skerries are enclosed within its irregular contours. “Limes Norrlandicus,” the biological northern border and the meeting ground for southern and northern flora and fauna, runs through the National Park. This is where the marshes, bogs and coniferous forests of the north meet the deciduous oak and linden forests of the south. The species-rich animal and plant life sets the stage for exciting encounters: 270 different vascular plants mix with over 20 fish species, about 60 red-listed insect species, as well as moose, deer, hares, foxes, martens, beavers, wood lemmings and lynxes. The National Park boasts an unusually rich bird life that is unparalleled anywhere else in the country. A full 205 bird species can be found here, of which over 100 regularly nest in the park. Wander along the banks of the Dalälven among giant oaks or make your way through dark, mystical forests. Or why not hop in a canoe and get up close and personal with nature? There are five simple cabins, 11 tent sites and 24 lean-tos available free of charge if you’d like to stay overnight in the national park, as well as two cottages for rent. With its wilderness feel, rich wildlife, fantastic fishing waters and gorgeous landscape, Färnebofjärden is an attractive and well-known destination for birdwatching, canoeing, boating, recreational fishing, and much more.
